House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said he will consider expunging one or both of the impeachments against former President Donald Trump.
McCarthy said House Republicans have other priorities but that he understands why some members may feel strongly about the matter, when asked about erasing the two impeachments.

“When you watch what he went through, I would understand why members would want to bring that forward. Our first priority is to get our economy back on track, secure our borders, make our streets safe again, give parents the opportunity to have a say in their education, and actually hold government accountable. But I understand why individuals want to do it, and we’d look at it,” McCarthy said during his weekly press conference Thursday.
Trump was impeached twice during his four years as president. In 2019, he was impeached due to allegations of a quid pro quo when speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about opening an investigation into Joe Biden’s family’s dealings in the country. In 2021, Trump was impeached due to his alleged role in the Capitol riot on Jan. 6 of that year. Trump was acquitted of both impeachments in the Senate.
Former Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) introduced a resolution to expunge Trump’s first impeachment in March 2022, calling it “an unimaginable abuse of our Constitution.” He later introduced a separate resolution to expunge Trump’s second impeachment.

At the same press conference, McCarthy vowed to release the security footage from the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, saying “the public should what happened.”
