NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson unveiled his new No. 84 Wednesday, a reverse of the number he previously raced under.

Johnson had retired from full-time racing in September, leaving his career No. 48, up for Alex Bowman to claim. The seven-time champion joined Petty GMS alongside the only other living seven-time champion Richard Petty as owner. Maury Gallagher remains the primary owner after two years. Their Cup team of Chevrolets will now be known as Legacy Motor Club to reflect its winning reputation.

Other team racers include Erik Jones driving with Petty’s original No. 43, and Noah Gragson in No. 42 this season. Johnson’s schedule so far this year only includes the Daytona 500 in February, which he has previously won twice.

“The All-Star race is really high on my personal list, so I hope to do it, but there’s the Indy 500 piece that is out there on the IndyCar side and that would be a conflict,” Johnson told the Associated Press. The rest of his 2023 schedule is undecided.
