Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) responded to critics on social media in simple terms on Wednesday after he missed voting this week because he was attending the funeral of one of his fellow Navy SEAL veterans.

After missing votes for a handful of items this week, Crenshaw’s opponents began speculating his whereabouts on social media. Right-wing social media activist Laura Loomer labeled the congressman a “RINO,” short for “Republican in name only.” “Dan is not showing up for work on purpose,” she wrote.

“I missed some votes this week on account of a funeral in San Diego for my friend and fellow SEAL. Being with my brothers was simply more important,” a statement provided by a spokesperson for Crenshaw read.

He hit back at Loomer’s comments on Twitter, as well: “Yes Laura, it was on purpose. I flew to San Diego for a funeral for a friend and active duty SEAL.”

Crenshaw also responded to critic Alex Bruesewitz, who is the CEO of political strategy firm X Strategies. Notably, several of the Trump-aligned firm’s clients lost in the midterm elections. Records of those who enlisted the help of X Strategies are accessible on the Federal Election Commission’s website.

“Thankful that my obsessive trolls on twitter noticed my brief absence,” he wrote in response to Bruesewitz.

The Texas congressman recently panned President Joe Biden for his short trip to the southern border, the first of his presidency. Crenshaw joked that installing a Baskin-Robbins ice cream parlor on the border might prompt the president to visit more, referring to his well-known love of the dessert. Biden “forgot we had a border,” he added on Fox News.
