Incumbent Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) defeated Rebekah Jones in the race for Florida’s 1st Congressional District.
The heavily Republican district encompasses parts of northwest Florida, including Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach.
A close ally of former President Donald Trump and firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Gaetz brands himself as an “America First” congressman and says his focuses are on “national security, veterans’ affairs, and adherence to constitutional principles.” He was dubbed the “Trumpiest Congressman in Trump’s Washington” in 2018 by GQ, a title he touts on his campaign website.
Jones made headlines in 2020 when she alleged the state of Florida was manipulating its COVID-19 data, a claim found to be false by a report by state Inspector General Michael Bennett.

Gaetz has reportedly been cleared in a sex-trafficking investigation, in which he was accused of paying women to cross state lines for sex. He has denied the accusations.
