Biden, Trudeau and Lopez Obrador give joint statement Tuesday.
President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador will be delivering statements on Tuesday as their series of talks on immigration, climate change, and trade come to an end.
The leaders’ statements in Mexico City come after Biden had private meetings with Lopez Obrador on Monday and with Trudeau on Tuesday morning. During the meeting with Lopez Obrador, the illegal flow of fentanyl and other illicit drugs that have entered the United States through Mexican drug cartels was a dominant topic. Migration was also discussed.

The three leaders also released a joint statement Monday condemning the storming of the capital buildings in Brazil, which resembled the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol in 2021 by Trump supporters. The leaders are expected to address the riot during their statements.
“Canada, Mexico, and the United States condemn the January 8 attacks on Brazil’s democracy and on the peaceful transfer of power,” the leaders said in a statement released by the White House.

“We stand with Brazil as it safeguards its democratic institutions,” they added. “Our governments support the free will of the people of Brazil. We look forward to working with President Lula on delivering for our countries, the Western Hemisphere, and beyond.”
The three leaders have been meeting as a result of a two-day North American Leaders’ Summit aimed at easing tensions across North America. The summit, often referred to as the “Three Amigos” summit, is typically held every year between the three countries, but there was a hiatus while former President Donald Trump was in office.
