After 10 classified documents were discovered to have been taken by President Joe Biden after his vice presidency, which ended in 2017, a co-host of The View is urging viewers to give the president the benefit of the doubt.
“There are differences in what happened. Well, we all know that Trump is a liar and a thief,” said Joy Behar. “It’s not that big a jump to say he obstructed and he lied. We don’t think Biden is a liar and a thief, so we give him the benefit of the doubt.”
After Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) called for answers, Whoopi Goldberg told him to “calm down a little bit, because there are some, perhaps, differences here.”

Explaining why former President Donald Trump’s offense was worse, Sunny Hostin said: “Obstruction is a big deal. And facts matter. And let’s not talk about alternative facts. … Let’s talk about the fact that Donald Trump was asked to return the documents voluntarily, refused, then refused several subpoenas. Kept them in toilets and kept them not in a locked place.”
Last summer, Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago in Florida was raided, and hundreds of classified documents were seized.
“You can’t compare one to the other,” Hostin said.
“When you look, intention matters,” said Sara Haines. “My first reaction in hearing this story wasn’t to justify President Biden.”
However, she said, “You’ve got 300 documents in the gold castle in Florida. You’ve got 10 documents down the street in a public building locked in a closet.”
“We don’t know enough quite yet to see what these documents are,” Haines said.

Goldberg concluded by minimizing Biden’s taking of classified documents. “We don’t know if it’s classified classified or just classified,” she said, implying that the documents may not be as sensitive as the ones found at Mar-a-Lago.
White House special counsel Richard Sauber said: “The President’s personal attorneys have cooperated with the Archives and the Department of Justice in a process to ensure that any Obama-Biden Administration records are appropriately in the possession of the Archives.”
