President Joe Biden plans to visit Canada in March, the White House said Tuesday.

The announcement came in a readout of the president’s bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the North American Leaders’ Summit in Mexico City. Biden specifically told Trudeau he “looks forward” to the trip this spring, according to a readout of the meeting.

IMMIGRATION ISSUES TO DOMINATE BIDEN’S ‘THREE AMIGOS’ SUMMIT WITH TRUDEAU, AMLO

“President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. met today with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada in Mexico City on the margins of the North American Leaders’ Summit to discuss joint efforts to drive economic competitiveness and inclusive growth, meet ambitious climate commitments, strengthen cooperation on security and defense, and address regional and global challenges, including Russia’s brutal war in Ukraine, instability in Haiti, and irregular migration and forced displacement throughout the region,” White House officials added.

Biden drew fire from some Canadian critics earlier in his term for failing to visit the country, the second-largest U.S. trading partner, in person.

Biden did “virtually” host Trudeau and a delegation of Canadian officials in October of 2021. COVID-19 restrictions had scuttled the previously planned in-person meetings and provided plenty of awkward photos, showing Biden dwarfed by a video screen bearing a larger-than-life Trudeau.

Both leaders will meet with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Tuesday at the “Three Amigos” summit.
