Brotherly shove: Prince Harry recounts brawl with brother Prince William

Prince Harry was hurled to the floor by his brother Prince William during a heated flare-up about Meghan Markle back in 2019, according to an upcoming memoir from the royal pariah.
William arrived at Harry’s residence in Nottingham Cottage to clear the air on “the whole rolling catastrophe” of their relationship, with the latter deeply bitter over the negative press coverage of his American wife, but after a tirade of insults exchanged between the two, things got physical, the book Spare written by Harry claims.

“Are you serious? Help me? Sorry – is that what you call this? Helping me,” Harry recalled pressing William about the Markle drama, per the book previewed by the Guardian. William had been frustrated with Markle’s behavior, but Harry was apoplectic over media coverage of her.
The remark drew fury from William, who stepped closer to him. Harry replied by giving him a glass of water and saying, “Willy, I can’t speak to you when you’re like this.”
“[William] set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor,” Harry wrote. “I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”
After his anger cooled, William apologized and offered to help Harry back to his feet, but Harry refused, the book said. William also emphasized to Harry that Markle didn’t need to know about the altercation, which mirrored the dust-ups they had as children. Markle later noticed bumps on Harry and so he informed her of what transpired. She “wasn’t that surprised, and wasn’t all that angry,” but “was terribly sad,” per the book.
The book’s title is a nod to Harry’s role as the second brother, in which he is not afforded the most prominent royal titles and power unless something happens to the firstborn. It is slated for release on Jan. 10. William is the Prince of Wales and Harry is nominally the Duke of Sussex.
In Spare, Harry also blamed William for one of the biggest controversies in which he was pictured at a 2005 costume party donning a Nazi costume.
“I phoned Willy and Kate, asked what they thought. Nazi uniform, they said,” Harry wrote, per Page Six. After he tried it on, “they both howled. Worse than Willy’s leotard outfit! Way more ridiculous! Which, again, was the point.”

Animosity between Harry and William is well-known. Harry met Markle in 2016, and the two married in Windsor Castle in 2018 before a royal schism emerged. Harry and Markle stepped down from their duties as members of the royal family and moved to California in early 2020, before launching podcasts and publicly detailing their quarrels with the royal family.
“I would like to get my father back. I would like to have my brother back,” Harry recently said in a preview clip of his interview with ITV’s Tom Bradby.
