House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) decided against a push to adjourn the House as he struggles to lock down the votes to become speaker.
McCarthy weighed pushing for an adjournment to provide more time to strategize, but conservatives balked at voting in favor of the motion.
“We need to sit in a room, negotiate — I know a number of us have been talking to one another, and I think we can find an agreement today,” he said Wednesday.
The House passed a motion to adjourn by voice vote on Tuesday, with the chamber gaveling back in at noon.
