WATCH: Joy Behar enjoys GOP infighting, calls it ‘most destructive force in politics’

The View hosts returned to give their opinions on politics in the new year, and they did not hold back.
Joy Behar told her co-hosts that the Republican Party is “the most destructive force in politics in my lifetime,” as the ladies discussed the current struggle to elect a speaker of the House of Representatives.

Because of this, “I’m enjoying their demise,” she said.

“I sort of enjoyed that they’re in such disarray because they deserve it,” Behar continued. “It was nice that they took a break from destroying the country and started to turn on each other.”
She then compared the Republicans in Congress to turtles that begin to eat each other if they are not fed.
Alyssa Farah Griffin explained that speaker hopeful Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy “made a deal with the devil,” referring to former President Donald Trump. She said McCarthy had claimed, “‘I’m done with this guy’ and went back to Mar-a-Lago and begged for his support.”
“Republicans own the narrative that the Democrats were very leftist and just so extreme and so left,” Sunny Hostin added, claiming that Republicans have moved further to the Right than Democrats have to the Left.

Whoopi Goldberg criticized the House Democrats for not-so-subtly enjoying the infighting on their counterpart’s side. “That doesn’t bode well for us. That eating the popcorn doesn’t bode well for us,” she said.
McCarthy failed to reach the threshold of votes needed to secure the speakership in three separate votes on Tuesday. Until a speaker is elected, no new members can be sworn in. Another vote is set to take place on Wednesday, but it is unclear whether the minority leader will be able to gather the votes needed.
