Outgoing Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) called his successor, Rep.-elect George Santos (R-NY), a “con man” amid reports Santos was dishonest about his resume.

Suozzi wrote about his dissatisfaction with the man who will take over his seat in Congress and called for him to be removed in an opinion piece for the New York Times on Tuesday.

“Mr. Santos must be held accountable: He must be removed by Congress or by prosecutors, because there is no indication that he will be moved by conscience to voluntarily resign,” Suozzi wrote.

The Democrat also compared Santos to famous con men such as Bernie Madoff and Sam Bankman-Fried.

“He’s becoming as well known as others who abused trust, like Sam Bankman-Fried and Bernie Madoff,” Suozzi wrote. “Not unlike them, he appears to have conducted his finances in highly unusual, if not unlawful, ways. But I have to wonder, having seen his delight for attention and his self-regard, if he loves that everyone now knows his name — even though it’s because of yet another big lie.”

Suozzi served as congressman for New York’s 3rd District from 2017 until this year.

Santos has been found to have fabricated or made up several aspects of his resume, including claims he worked at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup and that he was Jewish. The incoming congressman confirmed in an interview with the New York Post that he had “embellished” his resume.

Others have also condemned Santos, including outgoing Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) and Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR).
