Ron DeSantis (R-FL) was sworn in for his second term as governor Tuesday.

At the ceremony in Tallahassee, DeSantis told supporters that keeping Florida free and a great place to raise a family would continue to be a major focus.

“We must ensure school systems are responsive to parents and to students, not partisan interest groups, and we must ensure that our institutions of higher learning are focused on academic excellence and the pursuit of truth, not the imposition of trendy ideology,” DeSantis said. “Florida must always be a great place to raise a family — we will enact more family-friendly policies to make it easier to raise children, and we will defend our children against those who seek to rob them of their innocence.”

DeSantis also took shots at the federal government over the current state of the economy, urging state lawmakers to soften the blow to residents.

“Florida has accumulated a record budget surplus, and we need to enact a record amount of tax relief, particularly for Florida families who are grappling with inflation.”

The governor, who made headlines last year for sending illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, touched on how the Biden administration is failing at border security.

“It has recklessly facilitated open borders, making a mockery of the rule of law, allowing massive amounts of narcotics to infest our states, importing criminal aliens, and greenlighting the flow of millions of illegal aliens into our country, burdening communities and taxpayers throughout the land,” DeSantis said.

His remarks come as immigrants have taken over Dry Tortugas National Park in the Florida Keys in recent days.

DeSantis, who was accompanied by his wife, Casey, and their three children, Madison, Mason, and Mamie, is considered by some to be a possible presidential candidate in 2024.

Currently, he has not indicated plans to run in the next election.
