Fred White dead: Earth, Wind & Fire band members mourn loss of drummer

Fred White, a drummer for the iconic 1970’s band Earth, Wind & Fire, has died.
White died at the age of 67 on Sunday, according to his brother and former bandmate Verdine White.

“Our family is saddened today with the loss of an amazing and talented family member, our beloved brother Frederick Eugene ‘Freddie’ White,” Verdine White wrote on Instagram. “He joins our brothers Maurice, Monte and Ronald in heaven and is now with the angels.”
The drummer was a founding member of the classic R&B band that enjoyed a 1980 double Grammy win. He is remembered as a “child protege” who had “gold records at the young age of 16 years old.”
“But more than that at home and beyond he was the wonderful bro that was always entertaining and delightfully mischievous!” Verdine White added.
Earth, Wind & Fire’s Instagram account also posted a tribute to the drummer, sharing video of his solo during the band’s performance of “Runnin’” while on its world tour in 1979.
“We will miss you, Freddie,” Philip Bailey, one of the band’s original lead singers, wrote in response to the news.

The band is known for classic songs such as “September” and “Shining Star.”
Details regarding the cause of death were not released.
