‘Big f***** firecracker’ cause of loud boom heard in DC’s Navy Yard, firefighters say

Firefighters say the cause of a loud boom that reportedly shook apartments and set off car alarms in Washington D.C. late Sunday night was caused by “a big f***** firecracker.”
A witness shared video of the smoke billowing up in the air in the Navy Yard neighborhood of the city at about 10:40 p.m. Sunday.

The Washington Examiner’s Jerry Dunleavy reported the “very loud boom” shook his apartment and set off car alarms in the neighborhood.

Julio-César Chávez with Reuters said the explosion happened at the Navy Yard ice rink, and that it was a big enough flash that authorities want the Department of Defense to investigate.
The blast blew a hole into the ice rink and blew out a nearby glass pane. Investigators are on their way to the scene as midnight approaches.
