WATCH: Tudor Dixon slams Stephen Colbert apology, ‘not understanding’

Republican Michigan gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon slammed late-night television host Stephen Colbert for “not understanding the heartbeat of America.”
Dixon appeared on the Megyn Kelly Show Monday, responding to Colbert’s attempted apology after he previously questioned her honesty in sharing a conversation she had with Michigan resident Khalil Othman, who was concerned over pornographic materials in school books.
Colbert had mocked Dixon on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, saying the man she spoke of was not real. Since then, the talk show host has said he acknowledges the man exists but blasted Dixon for being vague and making it difficult for him to research the validity of her comments.

Dixon brushed off Colbert’s apology, saying it further shows how “the elitist Left is coming out and belittling parents.”
The GOP candidate noted that Othman, a Muslim American, left the Democratic Party but worried he would not be fully accepted by Republicans.
“This is not a partisan thing,” Dixon said. “We are going to fight for our kids, and we are bringing people along with us.”
Kelly asked Dixon what her message to Colbert was.
“You are not understanding the people of the country,” Dixon said. “You’re not understanding the heartbeat of America right now, and that is to make sure that our kids are protected, that they have a future and that they have safe communities.”

Dixon added that Democrats are losing members of their party because they “belittle parents who are concerned about their child’s safety, no matter what the safety issue is.”
