After a Super Tuesday loss to Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) suggested Schiff’s campaign spent millions of dollars donated by billionaires fueling lies to get a Republican opponent on the general election ticket.
“Our opponents threw everything — every trick, millions of dollars, every trick in the playbook — to knock us off our feet. But I’m still standing in high heels,” Porter said in her concession speech.
Porter also received millions of dollars for her campaign despite claiming she did not receive money from corporate political action committees. According to Open Secrets, Porter received $32,000 from Apple and Google. Porter received $58,000 from the Universities of California San Francisco and Irvine. She also received $600,000 from lawyers and law firms.
Overall, Porter raised $28 million in her campaign for Senate compared to Schiff’s $31 million. Steve Garvey, who will be running against Schiff in the general election, raised $2 million for his campaign.

“We’re standing three to one in TV spending and an onslaught of billionaires who spent millions peddling lies,” Porter said. “And our opponent’s spending more to boost the Republican than promoting his own campaign.”
Under California’s open primary rules, regardless of party affiliation, the top two candidates with the most votes are placed on the ballot in the general election. Schiff and Republican former baseball player Steve Garvey will compete for the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s seat this November.
