A driver in Connecticut “miraculously” survived a car wreck in which more than 20 feet of guardrail impaled the vehicle’s passenger side, local emergency services said Monday.
The crash occurred along Interstate 384 in Manchester, Connecticut, the day after Christmas, and it caused the guardrail to separate, according to Manchester Fire, Rescue, and EMS.

“The steel guardrail traveled through the passenger compartment, between both front seats and then exited the rear, extending approximately 20 ft beyond it,” officials said in a Facebook post. “Miraculously, the occupant suffered only minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital with fire department paramedics.”
Footage of the aftermath filmed by EMS officials shows the guardrail snaking its way through the area near the center console, through the passenger seat, and into the engine.

The crash came two days after a driver and passenger in Ohio survived a crash that caused the guardrail to splice down the middle of their car on Christmas Eve. The driver’s Dodge Charger slid off an icy road and into the guardrail, which went through the vehicle and out the back window.
It is unclear how serious the injuries were, but both men were able to spend the holidays with their families, according to Nexstar Media.
