Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said voters should accept President Joe Biden is old but that democracy needed to be “saved” from former President Donald Trump.
Clinton told listeners of the Mornings with Zerlina radio show on SiriusXM on Tuesday that Trump was also old and more dangerous to the future of the country. Trump is 77, while Biden is 81.

“Somebody the other day said to me … ‘Well, but, you know, Joe Biden’s old.’ I said, ‘You know what, Joe Biden is old. Let’s go ahead and accept the reality. Joe Biden is old,’” Clinton said. “So we have a contest between one candidate who’s old but who’s done an effective job and doesn’t threaten our democracy. And we have another candidate who is old, barely makes sense when he talks, is dangerous, and threatens our democracy.”
“So, really, pick between your two old ones and figure out how you’re going to save our democracy,” Clinton continued. “Because no matter where you stand on the political spectrum, you want to maintain freedom and the rule of law and protection for people’s fundamental rights, or at least I used to think so.”
The comments come ahead of the biggest voting day of the year, Super Tuesday, when voters in 16 states and one territory will cast their ballots. It also comes shortly after a New York Times/Siena College poll found that 61% of Biden’s 2020 supporters now believe he is “just too old to be an effective president.”
The former secretary of state did not comment on Biden’s mental state but said Trump was also having memory problems that were worrying because of his comments about running against former President Barack Obama.

“Listen to Donald Trump, who is, like, ranting, making no sense, can’t even remember who he is running against,” Clinton said. “He constantly talks about Barack Obama being his opponent. Last I checked, that wasn’t what was happening. So, if you’re worried about a person not necessarily knowing what’s going on, I’d worry a lot more about Donald Trump.”
Trump has gone back and forth between confusing the two men in speeches and hinting that Biden is not really the one running the country but is serving as a way to give Obama a third term.
