Late-night television host Jimmy Kimmel hinted that he might be throwing in the towel for his show, saying he believes he is on his “final contract.”
Kimmel, 56, revealed his interest in ending Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, noting that he has moments in his work when he thinks, “I cannot wait until my contract is over.” He said he sometimes thinks he misses “the fun stuff” whenever he does take a break from his show but seemed to imply that it could very well end in a couple of years.
“I think this is my final contract,” Kimmel told the Los Angeles Times. “I hate to even say it, because everyone’s laughing at me now — each time I think that, and then it turns out to be not the case. I still have a little more than two years left on my contract, and that seems pretty good. That seems like enough.”

Kimmel described his future self as “very accomplished.” He said he is not sure what he would do after retiring from his show but that he has a number of hobbies to keep him occupied and is interested in learning how to make sculptures.
“I know that when I die, if I’m fortunate enough to die on my own terms in my own bed, I’m going to think, ‘Oh, I was never able to get to this, and I was never able to get to that,’” Kimmel said.
Kimmel’s statements on Tuesday come after he hinted at an interest in retiring Jimmy Kimmel Live! during the Strike Force Five podcast, which he and four other late-night television hosts started during the 2023 writers’ strike. Kimmel, whose show has been on the air since 2003, opted against the idea at the time because he said the strike made him realize how much he enjoys hosting the show.
Last week, former Rep. George Santos announced he filed a lawsuit against Kimmel for videos the show purchased on Cameo to mock the ousted congressman, who charges users to make personalized videos on the platform.

Earlier this year, Kimmel got into a feud with New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers after the late-night host accused Rodgers of calling him a client of Jeffrey Epstein. Rodgers clarified that he only said Kimmel was concerned about the release of Epstein’s flight list and was in no way accusing him of being a client of Epstein.
Kimmel will host the 96th Academy Awards on March 10. It will mark the fourth time he has hosted the annual movie awards show.
