Police drop Riley Gaines case of assault and ransom against protesters

.

Roughly one year after former University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines said she was attacked at San Francisco State University, the campus police department has ended its investigation without charging a suspect.

Last April, Gaines was giving a speech at a Turning Point USA event on campus when she said protesters stormed in, interrupted the event with chants, and flicked the lights on and off. Gaines was led away by a police officer, and she told authorities she was held for hours in a room while protesters demanded a ransom.

“I was ambushed and physically hit twice by a man. This is proof that women need sex-protected spaces,” Gaines said of the experience on X, including some video footage. “Still only further assures me I’m doing something right. When they want you silent, speak louder.”

“The police have finally informed me the case has been suspended as all charges are ‘alleged’ & ‘unfounded,’” Gaines wrote on X on Wednesday. “I guess audio, video, & eyewitness evidence aren’t admissible in SF.”

During this experience at San Francisco State University, Gaines captured a protester on video calling her a “f***ing transphobic b****.”

Law enforcement attempted to reach Gaines last summer to discuss the incident again, but Gaines told Fox News Digital that she declined to meet a second time because she “just wasn’t willing.” Advisers assured Gaines she only needed to provide a statement to the police once.

Turning Point USA did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.

Gaines rose to fame after tying for fifth place with transgender swimmer Lia Thomas at a national swimming championship. Since then, she has become a women’s rights advocate by speaking out against transgender athletes in women’s sports.
