Colorado Springs double murder suspect arrested

.

Colorado Springs, Colorado, police announced the arrest of Nicholas Jordan, 25, after two people were found dead in a University of Colorado, Colorado Springs dormitory room on Friday.

Jordan was arrested on two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, and Samuel Knopp, 24. Police responded to a shots fired call from the Crestone House dormitory at 5:59 a.m. local time on Friday.

Authorities said they found Jordan in a vehicle at 7:52 a.m. local time on Monday and took him into custody less than an hour later “without incident.” A booking photo of Jordan will be available after he is booked in the county jail, according to police.

Police said the El Paso County Coroner’s Office is still investigating the cause of death for Montgomery and Knopp but did note in an initial release that one of the deceased had a gunshot wound.

Knopp was a student at the university, but Montgomery was not, according to police. Authorities said it appears the killings were an “isolated incident” rather than a “random attack” but stressed that investigations are still ongoing.

“Investigative efforts continue to indicate this was an isolated incident between individuals who were known to one another and not a random attack against the school or other students at the university,” the police department said in a post on X.

Classes at the university were canceled on Monday, but the campus remained open to allow for the university to “hold spaces and opportunities to for community and support in the wake of the recent tragedies on campus.”

In a message to students on Sunday, university Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet described Knopp as a “senior studying music and a beloved member of the Visual and Performing Arts department” and added that Montgomery “will be mourned by our campus community.”
