Voters are more concerned about their future than Trump’s past: Tim Scott

.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) claimed Sunday that voters in the United States are more focused on their future rather than on former President Donald Trump‘s past, suggesting that Trump could help voters make their futures more secure.

Scott’s statement was in response to a question on whether the Republican National Convention should pay the legal fees of the former president, who is facing multiple legal battles amid his campaign for the 2024 presidency. Scott responded by arguing that voters are not currently focused on Trump’s “legal challenges” but rather their economic challenges “across a kitchen table.”

“Their issues are very clear, by the way,” Scott said during an interview. “The American people are more focused on their future than Donald Trump’s past.”

Scott also expressed criticism of the “two-tiered” justice system within the U.S. right now, noting how one of the legal battles Trump is facing regards his handling of classified documents. His criticism stems from the recent report from special counsel Robert Hur, which argued that Biden should not be charged for his own mishandling of classified documents due to his faulty memory.

The South Carolina senator elaborated on the report’s findings, stating that Biden is “too old” to continue serving as president.

Scott, who endorsed Trump last month, campaigned with the former president in South Carolina on Wednesday. It comes as the state’s primary election is scheduled to be held on Saturday, Feb. 24.

Scott joining Trump in South Carolina has stirred rumors that he is a possible candidate for Trump’s vice president in the 2024 election. Other possible vice presidential candidates for the former president include Republican Arizona 2024 Senate candidate Kari Lake, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson.
