Biden stumps for Wes Moore in Maryland, implores heckler, ‘Don’t jump!’

President Joe Biden finished the last night before Election Day at a rally for Maryland gubernatorial candidate Wes Moore, giving his standard stump speech before a crowd that included three hecklers who were later removed.
Moore holds a comfortable 28-point lead over his GOP challenger, Dan Cox, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average. While the Old Line State is saying goodbye to a popular two-term Republican governor in Larry Hogan, it’s a traditionally blue state that Biden won by more than a million votes in 2020.

“We just have to remember who we are,” Biden said. “We’re the United States of America, and there’s nothing we can’t do as a people. So get out and vote.”
The rally took place at Bowie State University, a historically black college located in the Washington, D.C., suburb of Prince George’s County. Along with Biden and Moore, first lady Jill Biden and Sen. Christopher Van Hollen (D-MD) spoke at the event, which was held just 12 hours before Election Day polls begin opening.
The president warned about “MAGA” Republicans who he said favor trickle-down economics and won’t accept the outcome of elections. He also spoke about the declining black unemployment rate and his efforts to increase manufacturing jobs in the United States
“We’re shipping American products overseas instead of shipping American jobs overseas,” he said.
While much of the speech was familiar territory for the president, he did go off script when confronted by one of three hecklers in the crowd. One heckler, located at the back of the gym, began shouting as soon as Joe Biden took the stage, saying, “You’re a disgrace,” among other things. The crowd shouted him down and he was removed.
But the second stood in clear view of the stage and was wearing a top hat, getting the president’s attention with his antics.
“Don’t jump!” Joe Biden told him. “You look crazy enough to jump.”
That heckler was also removed, as was a third minutes later after he began shouting about Russia. All three were white men, according to pool reports.
The president accused Cox of introducing 14 bills that would “limit the right to choose.”
“We’re going to codify Roe vs. Wade in January and make it the law of the land,” Joe Biden said. He also promised to veto any anti-abortion bills that reach his desk in the next Congress.
A friendly crowd broke out in numerous “Let’s go Joe!” chants. The president wrapped up by reminding attendees and those watching to vote on Tuesday.

“The principles of the nation that I love are under a level of unprecedented assault,” he said. “Critical rights like understanding that abortion is healthcare. We are going to fight to make sure that Maryland is a safe haven for reproductive freedoms and reproductive health.”

The president concluded his midterm campaigning with big rallies in New York and Maryland but has kept a relatively low profile for most of the season.
Throughout the campaign, Joe Biden has mostly stuck to policy-focused events, avoiding battleground states like Georgia, Nevada, and Arizona and shunning traditional campaign events with his approval ratings stuck in the low 40s.
The president has stepped out a bit over the last week, but his appearances have all come in blue states he won comfortably two years ago.
