President Joe Biden‘s approval rating has dropped to its lowest point in his presidency, trailing behind former President Donald Trump‘s worst figures and approaching the lowest numbers for the incumbent president in nearly 15 years.
Biden recorded an approval rating of 33%, according to an ABC News-Ipsos poll released on Sunday, compared to 58% who disapprove of him. The survey of 2,228 adults conducted from Jan. 4-8 shows a huge hole for the commander in chief as he seeks reelection in less than 10 months.
The president’s approval ratings are below Trump’s worst figures, according to the pollster, which was 36%. Trump fell to a 36% approval rating three times during his presidency, in July 2017 along with in January and August 2018.
Biden’s approval rating has dipped below Trump’s and is his lowest during his tenure, per the pollster, and the worst for a president since George W. Bush in 2006-2008. Biden recorded an approval rating of 52% in April 2021 but has not had a net approval rating since June 2021.
While Biden was vice president, his lowest recorded approval rating by the pollster was 43% in August 2012, when he was running for reelection with then-President Barack Obama. Since August 2021, Biden has had a net disapproval rating, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average.
