Fairfax parents announce petition for county school board chairman’s recall

.

Conservative parents in Fairfax, Virginia, have unleashed a petition to have the chairman of the county school board recalled from his position, citing his support for sexually graphic books inside of schools.

The parents are seeking the recall of Karl Frisch, who was sworn into his position last December on several sexually graphic books, including Genderqueer and Flamer. Stacy Langton, a mother in Fairfax who has advocated against these books in schools, described Frisch’s decision to be sworn in on these books as “a big middle finger” to Fairfax County parents.

“We have laws against pornography in this country in front of minors,” Langton said in a video played during a Thursday school board meeting. “If they can’t legally buy it in town or be shown it, it doesn’t magically become OK on a public school campus.”

The petition for Frisch to resign cites a section in the U.S. Federal Law on Obscenity, which forbids distributing content of children engaging in sexually explicit conduct to children. The petition for Frisch’s resignation cites Genderqueer featuring content related to this law, along with Frisch “expressing support of the dissemination of sexually graphic material to minors,” as the reason for his recall.

Prior to the school board meeting, Jeff Hoffmann, a parent and retired veteran, delivered a statement on why the petition was being launched, telling the Washington Examiner that LGBT content does not need to be “pushed in the classrooms.”

“What Karl Frisch did, when he took the oath on those books, he basically told everybody, ‘This is my agenda. I don’t care about the budget. I don’t care about improvement projects. I don’t care about what the parents say. I care about protecting these books,’” Hoffmann told the Washington Examiner.

Langton has been active in combating explicit books inside Virginia schools, which was a major focus in the 2021 gubernatorial election. She also appeared in a few ads in support of Gov. Glenn Youngkin, with Youngkin winning the election in an upset victory.

Last year, Langton coordinated a protest against a drag queen performance being held in Fairfax.
