Twitter CEO Elon Musk chose to amplify a thread of posts on the social media platform from Dmitry Medvedev, the former Russian president, who made some bold and seemingly bizarre predictions on behalf of the Kremlin for 2023.

Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Federation’s Security Council, posted a string of tweets on Monday sharing the Russian government’s predictions for the new year, participating in a recent trend of social media posts weighing in on what they think will happen to the global economy, political landscape, and more in 2023.

“On the New Year’s Eve, everybody’s into making predictions,” Medvedev said. “Many come up with futuristic hypotheses, as if competing to single out the wildest, and even the most absurd ones. Here’s our humble contribution.”

Medvedev offered 10 predictions for the next year, including one such projection that the United Kingdom will rejoin the European Union which will in turn cause the EU to collapse and force the euro to be dropped as the accepted currency.

The Russian official offered other seemingly bizarre suggestions, including an impending civil war in the United States.

“Civil war will break out in the US, California and Texas becoming independent states as a result,” Medvedev said. “Texas and Mexico will form an allied state. Elon Musk [will] win the presidential election in a number of states which, after the new Civil War’s end, will have been given to the GOP.”

Musk responded to the tweets shortly after it was posted, calling it an “epic thread!!”

Musk’s comments come after he recently announced he would be stepping down as Twitter’s CEO after one of his own polls on the platform voted him out. It’s not yet clear who the billionaire will choose as his successor or when he plans to resign.
