GoFundMe releases list of ‘most generous’ cities and states in America

Fundraising platform GoFundMe released its year-end report this month, revealing the “most generous” places in the United States.
According to the company, Vermont is the “most generous state.” The rest of the top ten states for generosity are primarily located close to the East Coast. Delaware, Maine, New Hampshire, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Georgia, South Carolina, Montana, and Virginia followed the Green Mountain State, respectively.

The only state on the list which isn’t located near the East Coast is Montana.
GoFundMe also reported the “most generous” cities in 2022. Similarly, many of the top 20 generous cities were located in close proximity to the East Coast.
Marietta, Georgia, earned the title of the “most generous city,” followed by Spring, Texas, and Silver Spring, Maryland, at numbers two and three. Sarasota, Florida; Bradenton, Florida; Olympia, Washington; Alpharetta, Georgia; Miami, Florida; Fort Myers, Florida; and Minneapolis, Minnesota, rounded out the top ten.
Florida boasted the most cities on the top 20 list, with nine cities making it. Georgia and Maryland each had three cities on the list.

The company noted that the lists were based on the number of donations per capita on both GoFundMe and Classy, which the company recently acquired. It was not determined by the amount of money donated.
The “most generous” country, however, was Ireland for the fourth year in a row.
