Friends co-lead David Schwimmer has asked why people have “refused to believe” the stories of Hamas committing sexual assault against Jews, wondering, “Where is their outrage?”

Schwimmer, who is Jewish, explained how he has advocated against rape and sexual assault for almost 30 years, including serving on the board of directors for the Rape Foundation for nearly 20 years. The actor wrote that he has worked with many “incredible organizations and individuals” in his time advocating against sexual assault and that believing victims of rape is a key factor for victims’ recovery.

“And yet … Why do so many REFUSE TO BELIEVE — despite all the evidence on camera and in testimony — the women, children and men brutally assaulted by terrorists on Oct. 7th?” Schwimmer wrote on Instagram. “Where is their outrage?”

The Friends actor went on to state that since the Hamas attack in October, it has “become clear” that many who advocate against sexual violence will do so on “conditional” support and that these people will “fight like hell” for sexual assault victims unless they are Jewish.

“For many of them, denying it even happened is a convenient way of avoiding compassion and personal responsibility,” Schwimmer wrote.

Schwimmer has advocated against Hamas in the past, calling the group a terrorist organization and condemning the group’s attack on Oct. 7. While clarifying that one can be against Hamas and still be critical of Israel’s leadership, he stated that any attempts to justify or celebrate Hamas’s attack are “indefensible and anti-Semitic.”
