A Minnesota Boy Scout spent $11,300 to buy 600 Christmas presents for children he does not know.
Jonathan Werner, 12, from Boy Scout Troop 506 raised the money after weeks of selling more than $56,000 worth of popcorn and chocolate-covered pretzels across eight Minnesotan counties.

The Boy Scout told local television station KARE that he took his portion of the sales profits and bought presents for hundreds of foster care children across five counties and those living in a domestic violence shelter.
“My dad was in foster care when he was a kid,” Werner said. “It didn’t really sound like they had much of a Christmas.”
Werner spent $2,336.07 at Kohl’s, which is only one of his shopping destinations. He said he would also purchase gifts from Walmart, Fleet Farm, and Amazon.
“He reads what every kid writes and tries to find something he thinks they are specifically going to like,” the Boy Scout’s mother, Serena, noted.

Werner said he hopes to continue the Christmas present project and eventually raise enough money to buy a gift for every foster child in Minnesota.
“I just want to make kids happy for Christmas and let them know they are loved and appreciated,” he said.
