An Iowa sports reporter saw his job shift from covering the evening’s athletic scores to an early morning play-by-play of weather alerts.

“I didn’t realize that there was a 3:30 also in the morning — until today,” said KWWL’s Mark Woodley while giving a live report about the winter storm blasting the Midwest during the channel’s morning show on Thursday.

Video of Woodley’s hilarious rant over several live reports went viral across social media, drawing more than three million views as of Friday morning.

Woodley was drafted onto the weather team when sports in his area were canceled.

“What better time to ask the sports guy to come in about five hours earlier than he would normally wake up and go stand out in the wind and the snow and the cold and tell other people not to do the same?” Woodley ranted.

The video of Woodley’s weather reporting has garnered the attention and praise of comedians including Judd Apatow and David Cross.

Apatow called Woodley a “legend” for his report.

Cross also shared the video, noting that “this is what you get when you ask the sports guy to come in to cover a blizzard in the morning show.”

“The good news is that I can still feel my face right now,” Woodley sneered during one live report. “The bad news is that I kind of wish I couldn’t.”

As Woodley signed off of another report, he encouraged viewers to continue watching the station’s weather coverage.

“Tune in for the next couple hours to watch me progressively get crankier and crankier,” Woodley said.
