Jeffries picks DelBene to lead House Democrats’ campaign arm

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), the incoming House minority leader, has tapped Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-WA) to serve as the head of the House Democrats’ campaign arm in the next cycle.
The New York Democrat announced his decision on Tuesday, noting that Democrats fell “just a few seats short” of holding the majority in 2022 and that DelBene’s track record of being able to win a competitive district could be helpful in the party’s quest to take back the House in 2024.

“Today, I am proud to announce that congresswoman Suzan DelBene will boldly lead us as the new Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. She is the right leader, with the right experience and the right demeanor to meet this pivotal moment,” Jeffries said in a statement.
“Suzan is a battle-tested, former Frontline member who brings to the DCCC role a sharp political instinct, proven fundraising ability, as well as serious management and operational experience inside and outside government,” he added.
He noted her past experience in “key DCCC leadership roles, including as Finance co-chair in 2018 when we successfully reclaimed the House Majority and Frontline co-chair in 2020 when we successfully defended it.”
DelBene, a former tech executive who is likely to be a fundraising powerhouse due to her ties to Silicon Valley, thanked Jeffries for including her in the new generation of leadership, stating that she is ready to hit the ground running.
“It’s an honor to be selected by Leader Jeffries to serve as DCCC chair for the 2024 cycle,” she said in a statement.
“I’m ready to get to work with our new leadership team and all corners of our Caucus to win back the House majority. Democrats are dedicated to showing Americans that governance can work, advancing the policies that will make a difference to families, workers, and communities, and pushing back against MAGA Republican extremism and chaos,” she added.

DelBene, the outgoing head of the New Democrats Coalition, previously vied unsuccessfully to lead the DCCC, having been edged out by Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-IL) two cycles ago.
Jeffries’s decision still needs to be ratified by the House Democratic Caucus.
