Greg Abbott skydives with 106-year-old Texan

Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) skydived Monday with a 106-year-old Texan and World War II veteran.
“My biggest fear was realized,” Abbott joked following the jump. “That is, I would land, and I would not be able to walk away from the landing spot.”

The experience was a first for the governor, and he admitted the sensation he had was probably nothing similar to those who skydive regularly.

“The most shocking sensation is when you immediately exit the plane, and you’re just in free fall, and we rolled … so, I had no clue where we were,” he said.
After Abbott and the instructor stabilized, they flew for a while before the parachute opened.
“We did some hard turns, and it’s an upside-down ride a couple times,” Abbott said. “I’ll tell you what, as soon as that shoot pulls, it’s like just amazing peace out there. It’s nice and calm. … I think my favorite part was when you’re just almost in a standstill in the middle of the air.”

Along with Abbott was 106-year-old Al Blaschke, whom the governor called an “old pro.”
“This is the kind of thing where you see young people, old people. … It’s very, very interesting to see that a lot [of] seniors really like doing this, and they do it repeatedly,” he said.
