South Carolina residents are able to get a rebate worth up to $800 in less than two weeks as long as they have filed their 2021 tax returns.

The amount of the rebate is based on a filer’s 2021 tax liability, which is the amount left over after subtracting credits from the income tax that a filer may owe. The Department of Revenue has capped the highest amount that people can receive from this rebate to $800, according to state legislation.

The money given from this payment will be paid to the same bank accounts in which people received their 2021 refund. This payment will be given before New Year’s Eve to South Carolina residents who have filed their 2021 SC1040 tax forms by Oct. 17, according to the South Carolina Department of Revenue.

Due to the $800 cap on this rebate, people whose tax liabilities are less than $800 will receive an amount equal to their tax liability, while those with a tax liability equal to or over $800 will receive exactly $800.

This payment can be tracked online for anyone who wants to know when he or she will receive the refund. To use the tracking site, filers will need either their Social Security number or the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number from their SC1040 form.

South Carolina residents still have time to file their 2021 returns and get this payment because the deadline has been set for Feb. 15 of next year. Anyone who files now after missing the initial Oct. 17 deadline will receive a rebate in March 2023.
