An American man and father of three is being held in custody inside a Mexican federal prison after accidentally crossing the border with a firearm.
Drew Harrison, his wife, and their young boys were driving to Rocky Point, Mexico, for vacation when “the nightmare started,” Antonio Harrison, Harrison’s father, said.

The Harrisons’ vehicle was randomly selected for inspection, and officials found the firearm Harrison said he forgot had been in the car, according to a report.
“They took Drew and his wife, and they just put him in custody immediately,” the distraught father said.
Harrison’s children were given to their grandparents, who were in the car behind them, and his wife was released shortly after, the report noted.
The incident occurred in May, and Harrison is still behind bars, according to his mother, Shirlene Harrison.
“The last time I saw my son was Mother’s Day,” she said.
“These people got my baby. This is my only son.”
Antonio Harrison has visited his son every month, he said.
“He’s been a man about and says, ‘Dad, I’ll do whatever I have to do, you know, it’s my fault.'”
Harrison initially faced a 15-year sentence, which his family is working hard to reduce.
“My son made a mistake. He owned up to it,” his father said.
