Nazi ‘Secretary of Evil’ brought to justice at 97

A 97-year-old woman known as the “Secretary of Evil” was convicted in a German court Tuesday for her role in the deaths of over 10,000 people throughout the Holocaust.
Irmgard Furchner, a former Nazi concentration camp typist, was convicted of complicity relating to the deaths of at least 10,505 at the Stutthof internment camp in Poland, according to a report.

Furchner worked there as a typist and stenographer from 1943 to 1945, but because she did so while she was under 21, she was tried as a minor, the report noted.
Her attorneys attempted to argue that Furchner had no knowledge of the atrocities committed by the Nazi regime during her time at the camp, but Judge Dominik Gross ruled otherwise.
“I’m sorry for everything that happened,” she said in court.
“I regret that I was at Stutthof at that time.”
She also reportedly attempted to escape in September 2021.
Following her being found guilty, the 97-year-old was sentenced to a two-year suspended prison term.
