Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) responded to boos and jeers from pro-ceasefire activists on Thursday afternoon by waving an Israel flag as he walked passed them outside the Capitol.

Fetterman was leaving the Russell Senate Office Building and walking through activists being arrested by the U.S. Capitol Police when the protesters started booing him and chanting, “What do we want? Ceasefire. When do we want it? Now.”

In response, the Pennsylvania Democrat waved an Israeli flag, adding fuel to the fire from left-leaning Democrats who have knocked him for his unwavering support of Israel during its war against Hamas, the Palestinian terrorist group.

After waiving the flag, demonstrators began shouting, “You’re a sham,” “What a joke you are,” and “You’re doing a disservice to Pennsylvania.”

Fetterman has issued several statements supporting Israel’s right to defend itself in the wake of the attacks, including saying he “fully support[s] Israel neutralizing the terrorists responsible for this barbarism.” On Oct. 18, the senator said that “now is not the time to talk about a ceasefire.” He also vowed to keep up posters of Israeli hostages taken by Hamas “until they are safely returned home.”

Activists have been protesting at the U.S. Capitol in recent weeks calling for a ceasefire and, in some cases, an end to the “occupation” of Israel. Some House Democrats, mostly “Squad” members, have received heavy backlash from Republicans and fellow Democrats for calling Israel’s counterattack in Gaza a “genocide.”

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) was censured on Tuesday for her anti-Israel comments, including embracing the phrase “from the river to the sea,” which some claim is synonymous with the eradication of Israel as a state.
