President Joe Biden is speaking at a United Auto Workers event following the conclusion of its strike against the “Big Three” automakers.
He is slated to begin speaking at 1:45 p.m. Though failing to score an endorsement, Biden has expressed support for the union, going so far as to join the picket line — an unprecedented move from a U.S. president.

The UAW strike began on Sept. 15 and involved more than 45,000 workers from the Big Three automakers at eight assembly plant locations and 38 parts distribution facilities across nearly two dozen states.
It concluded at the end of October when the union reached a tentative agreement with General Motors. UAW President Shawn Fain hailed the deal as one of “several astonishing victories.”

“On Day 44 of our Stand Up Strike, I am honored to announce that our union is once again victorious,” he said. “Once again, we have achieved what just weeks ago we were told was impossible. At Stellantis, in particular, we have not only secured a record contract. We have begun to turn the tide in the war on the American working class.”
