WATCH LIVE: Senate Judiciary Committee meets to authorize subpoenas in Supreme Court ethics investigation

The Senate Judiciary Committee is meeting to authorize subpoenas in the Supreme Court ethics investigation.

The hearing is slated to commence at 10 a.m. Senate Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin (D-IL) will be presiding.

Last week, Durbin announced the committee would be subpoenaing two conservative billionaires and one conservative activist who were close to Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. The move was objected to by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who called it “completely and totally inappropriate.”

“In order to adequately address this crisis, it is imperative that we understand the full extent of how people with interests before the Court are able to use undisclosed gifts to gain private access to the justices,” Durbin and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) said in a statement last week.
