EXCLUSIVE — Keeping with the Halloween spirit, the National Republican Congressional Committee delivered a postman costume to House Democratic Conference Chairman Pete Aguilar’s (D-CA) office after he was dubbed “Post Office Pete” by Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

While on the House floor nominating Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) for speaker of the House, McCarthy hit Aguilar for only having one bill signed into law in his years in Congress, a post office in California. “I guess that’s good enough to be caucus chair,” McCarthy said.

After the nomination, Aguilar shot back at McCarthy on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, saying that he would “know more about the legislative process if you’d spent less time groveling for Speaker votes from the most extreme members of your conference.”

McCarthy responded to him, saying, “Thanks for your concern, Post Office Pete.”

“It may be a Halloween costume, but the least effective legislator in House Democratic leadership history, Post Office Pete Aguilar, can wear this uniform year-round,” NRCC national press secretary Will Reinert said.
