McCarthy vows to investigate reports that link COVID-19 to Chinese bioweapons program

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has vowed Republicans will declassify and continue to investigate reports that potentially link a Chinese bioweapons program to the origins of COVID-19 in the next Congress.

McCarthy made the assertion while commenting on the recently released House GOP report on Fox News Channel’s Jesse Watters Primetime Thursday.

“This is coming from the intel committee. So there are certain things they can say and in the next Congress we are going to try to declassify this information so the public can have it even further. What we have now found and what they believe is the intel community downplayed these bioweapons and the incident that could have caused this inside China,” McCarthy said.

The California Republican also recalled in a meeting in 2020 Dr. Anthony Fauci made a point to say not to wear masks and also not to say the virus originated from a lab in China, despite some evidence suggesting it may be the case.

McCarthy also reiterated how he hopes to form a select committee on China as part of the investigation into the orgins of COVID-19. He is currently vying to be House Speaker in the next Congress but is facing opposition from some conservative members of the GOP conference.
