The man who attacked Dave Chappelle at a Hollywood Bowl comedy performance was sentenced to 270 days in jail.
Isaiah Lee, 24, pleaded no contest Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court to misdemeanor counts of battery and entering a restricted area. He rushed on to the stage and tackled Chappelle during a packed show in May.
District Attorney George Gascon initially received blowback for not charging felonies in the case because Lee had carried a replica gun with a knife blade. Instead, Lee was charged with four misdemeanors, including battery, unauthorized access to the stage area during a performance, commission of an act that delays the event or interferes with the performer, and possessing a weapon with the intent to assault.

After the attack, Lee said he was triggered by Chappelle’s jokes that he viewed as anti-LGBT.
“I identify as bisexual … and I wanted him to know what he said was triggering. I wanted him to know that, next time, he should consider first running his material by people it could affect,” Lee told the New York Post.
Lee is no stranger to the judicial system. He was charged with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed his roommate in December 2021. The roommate did not identify Lee as his attacker until after the Chappelle incident became national news.

The stabbing case is pending. Lee will likely serve less than half of his sentence in the Chappelle case because of California early release laws, but he must pay a $1 million bond before he can leave jail.
