The House is convening after the House Republican Conference voted to nominate Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) for House speaker earlier on Wednesday.
The House is set to convene at 3 p.m. EDT, but it is unknown if the House will vote to elect a speaker on Wednesday because the GOP conference still appears divided in its support of Scalise.

The conference voted for Scalise over Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) in a closed-door meeting earlier on Wednesday. To elect a speaker, a candidate must receive 217 votes.
