The primary race to fill the seat is expected to be hotly contested between three Democratic members of the House of Representatives: Reps. Katie Porter (D-CA), Adam Schiff (D-CA), and Barbara Lee (D-CA). Newsom’s office said that Butler may run for the full term after previously implying an appointee to replace Feinstein would be a caretaker of the seat until the 2024 election.
