The House of Representatives is expected to vote on Rep. Matt Gaetz‘s (R-FL) motion to vacate the chair held by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

McCarthy is expected to bring the vote to the floor on Tuesday afternoon if no one tables Gaetz’s motion. Gaetz filed the motion Monday night after accusing McCarthy of making a “backdoor deal” with Democrats to avoid a government shutdown over the weekend.

“At this point next week, one of two things will happen: Kevin McCarthy won’t be the Speaker of the House or he’ll be the Speaker of the House working at the pleasure of the Democrats. And I’m at peace with either result because the American people deserve to know who governs them,” Gaetz said after filing the motion.
