A mother and her young son were killed in a tornado that was part of a series of storms that spawned several other tornadoes across Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana on Tuesday.

The two were killed in Keithville, Louisiana, with the boy being found in a “wooded area of Pecan Farms” and the mother found “one street over” under debris, both being just a short distance from their home, according to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s office.

The Sheriff’s office also confirmed two individuals were hospitalized due to injuries sustained during the tornado.

The National Weather Service issued tornado watches Tuesday that spanned across Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. The powerful bevy of storms continues to generate tornado warnings across Louisiana and Mississippi Wednesday as the storm moves east.

Officials are warning of increased risk for severe storms hitting parts of Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina in the coming days.

Six tornadoes were confirmed to have touched down in North Texas Tuesday, per the National Weather Service, with a dozen other suspected tornadoes.

The storms in the southeastern U.S. come as the northern plains and parts of the Midwest face intense blizzard conditions until at least Thursday, according to officials.

“The impacts from the storm are multiple days of heavy snow, strong winds, and periods of freezing rain [which] will create major to extreme impacts across the north-central U.S. from Tuesday into Thursday evening,” the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center said in an advisory.
