White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre held the first press briefing on Monday since Congress averted a government shutdown over the weekend.

Congress narrowly avoided a government shutdown on Saturday night, mere hours before their midnight deadline, by signing a continuing resolution that keeps the government funded for another 45 days. Congress now has until Nov. 17, 2023, to pass its annual appropriations bills to renew funding for the next fiscal year.
