Kennedy rips ‘insulting’ Merrick Garland testimony that treated voters like they’re ‘stupid’

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) slammed Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday for what he described as “insulting” testimony in front of the House Judiciary Committee concerning the Justice Department’s investigation of Hunter Biden.
Kennedy claimed that United States citizens are not “stupid” and slammed Garland for not talking about the facts of the investigation.

“I thought Attorney General Garland talked to the American people as if he were talking to Bambi’s baby brother. It was kind of insulting,” Kennedy told Fox & Friends. “The American people may be poorer under President Biden, but they’re not stupid. He didn’t talk about the facts.”
Kennedy proceeded to lay out the “facts” as presented by testimony from a whistleblower and uncovered by House Republicans. Kennedy claimed Hunter Biden sold influence to companies in countries that do not like the U.S., or at least sold the appearance of influence, from which he made millions. He went on to say that the younger Biden then allegedly shared the money he made from selling that influence with members of the Biden family.
The senator also claimed evidence showed the president was “not telling the truth” when he claimed he did not know about his son’s foreign business dealings, and that Biden had actually “enabled” it.
“Final point, I think it’s clear to the American people that Mr. Hunter Biden is Fredo. He had to have lots of help to pull this off,” Kennedy said, a reference to the Godfather character Fredo Corleone.
Garland testified that special counsel David Weiss had complete control over the Hunter Biden investigation and that he did not consult Weiss on the investigation, even though Weiss only received special counsel status last month. Garland also denied that the department had two tiers of justice.

“Our job is to uphold the rule of law. That means that we apply the same laws to everyone,” Garland said. “There is not one set of laws for the powerful and another for the powerless; one for the rich, another for the poor; one for Democrats, another for Republicans; or different rules, depending upon one’s race or ethnicity or religion.”
The testimony was part of the committee’s hearing on the weaponization of the department, and how it allegedly became politicized under Garland.
