Eligible Tennessee recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will continue to get their payments over the next two days before the program wraps up for September.

Tennessee sends out food stamps from the first of the month to the 20th of the month. SNAP benefits are disbursed based on the last two digits of the household’s Social Security number.

Those with SSN digits 85 to 89 will receive their payments on Monday. Households with SSN digits 90 to 94 will receive the payments on Tuesday. Recipients with SSN digits 95 to 99 will collect their SNAP benefits on Wednesday, the last day of the program’s cycle this month.

Households with digits 00 to 84 received their payments throughout the month in groups of five. For example, those with SSN digits 35 through 39 received their payments on Sept. 8, and those with digits 65 through 69 collected their benefits on Thursday.

Tennessee residents who qualify for SNAP after Wednesday will receive their payments for September and will not need to wait until their SSN digits are up in October.

In the Volunteer State, the maximum SNAP payments are $281 for a household of one, $939 for a household of four, and $1,691 for a household of eight. For additional household members, $211 is added.

The average payment per household member per month in Tennessee is $185. Around 12% of the population, or 825,300 people, receive food stamps.

Those who qualify for SNAP benefits will see the amount transferred to a prepaid electronic benefit transfer card. The EBT card works similarly to a debit card and can be used at grocery stores and farmer’s markets or at some online retailers. The money is intended for purchasing healthy foods.
