Texas men’s basketball coach Chris Beard arrested on domestic violence charges: Report

The men’s basketball coach for the University of Texas at Austin has been charged with domestic violence.

Chris Beard was taken into custody Monday morning, according to police records.

Beard, 49, was charged with a third-degree felony and is currently at the Travis County Jail. He’s being held without bond on a single charge of “assaulting a family/household member and impeding breath circulation.”

At this point, it remains unclear who Beard may have had the fight with or what lead up to it.

“The University is aware of the situation regarding Chris Beard, a statement from the school read. “We are continuing to gather information and monitoring the legal process.”

Beard has been with the university as head coach since 2021. Previously, he was an associate head coach at Texas Tech under Bob Knight.
