Eligible teachers in the Fort Smith School District in Arkansas will be given a one-time bonus check of $1,500 this Thursday, just ahead of the Christmas holiday.
The bonus check is intended to provide relief to veteran teachers who worked during the coronavirus pandemic and will be paid out of the federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund budget. The payments were approved by the school board earlier this year in May and are set to be delivered by Dec. 15, according to Talk Business.

The one-time bonuses will only go to select “veteran” teachers in the Fort Smith school system, including adult education teachers, classroom teachers, instructional specialists, interventionists, and special education coordinators. District-level administrators do not qualify for this bonus, though principals and assistant principals are eligible for this payment.
Teachers are also set to receive a benefit from the Certified Salary Schedule, which raises their salaries by $3,471.81 annually, a 5.89% pay increase for the current school year.
